After driving up to the Grand Montets car park and realising that I had left my lift pass in my jacket pocket in our flat in Saint Gervais, we dashed back to pick it and then headed for the mid day lift up the Midi. Damien, Carl, Neil, Lindsey and I had a good run down the Vallée Blanche in the clear skies and sun. The main objective was to scope out what routes were in condition up in the mountains. After we had surveyed what looked climbable (which was much less compared to past years) we couldn’t resist putting in a few good pitches down the awesome powder that was up there. Unfortunately the snow pack was horrendous and the Avalanche risk was quite high so we bypassed the unstable looking snow on the steeper slopes and made a swift descent down to Chamonix.
